According to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, more than 40 million people worldwide are on the run. Most of them are women and children who are heavily traumatized, due to violence, destruction of their social environment and the resulting escape. That’s why ASTRAIA also supports projects in countries that are afflicted by civil wars and terror, which forces especially women and children to leave their home.
This day is being accompanied by various activities and campaigns around the world, in order to call attention to poverty and the specific needs of millions of refugees.
“Imagine you’d have to leave everything behind and find yourself in a foreign environment, being uncertain about your future. Imagine how much courage it takes having to cope with the prospect of remaining in exile for months, years or maybe even for the entire rest of your life…”
(Antonio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)
In association with the publication of the number of refugees, UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie will address to the public in a TV spot and of course the Online and Social Media activities will also have a large part these days.
