Walter Scheel was Federal President of Germany from 1974 till 1979. Under Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, he was the first Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. Under Chancellor Willy Brandt, he was also Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister. In 1970, Walter Scheel and Willy Brandt paved the way for the German reunification by subscribing the series of treaties with Eastern Europe, which supported the approximation of East and West Germany significantly. Walter Scheel has been committing himself successfully for decades in the field of development policy. He was awarded several international prizes and honorary doctorates.
